Alfred Leon Green April 08, 1946 - February 03, 2007 Funeral services for Alfred Leon Green of Hobbs, New Mexico, will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 6, 2007, at First Baptist Church in Hobbs. Elio Barrios and Russell Hill, VistaCare chaplains, will officiate. Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park. Visitation is 9:00 a.m. until service time today at First Baptist Church. Services are being directed by Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Dr. Green, 61, died Saturday, February 3, 2007, at his residence. He was born April 8, 1946, in Brownfield, Texas. He married Barbara Grant Green on September 3, 1977, in Hobbs. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Green of the home; his mother, LaVerne Green of Hobbs, N.M.; three sons, Rusty Moomey and wife Ann of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Darrell Moomey and wife Peggy of Newcastle, California, and Brian Hill of Abilene, Texas; three daughters, Karen Elliott and husband Eddie of Lovington, New Mexico, LaNetta Jarrett and husband Johnny of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Suzy Crinklaw and husband Justin of Hobbs, New Mexico; a sister Charlotte LaVeda Derden and husband Rev. Spruce M. Jr. of Natchez, Miss., two brothers, David "Lyndon" Green of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Monty "Royce" Green and wife Lisa of Dallas, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Dr. Green was preceded in death by his father, Foye Leroy Green; a grandson, Danny Ty Crinklaw; and a great-granddaughter, J'Lynn Gibson. Memorials may be made to VistaCare Hospice, 1515 Calle Sur, Hobbs NM 88240 or to Castle Avenue Baptist Church, 301 Castle Ave., Hobbs, NM 88240. He grew up mostly in Hobbs and graduated from Hobbs High School. Leon surrendered to the ministry when he was 16 years old. He pastored at Love Street Baptist Church in Lovington; Fair Acres Baptist Church in Las Cruces, New Mexico; Immanuel Baptist in Las Vegas, New Mexico; Plainview Baptist Church in Colorado City, Texas; and Calvary Baptist in Midland, Texas. In 1984, Leon had kidney failure and was on dialysis, and in 1987 he had a kidney transplant, which was donated by his brother, Lyndon. Leon took classes to be a chaplain and received his doctorate degree in 1997 in Arkansas. He took the chaplain job with Family Hospice in Hobbs which is now VistaCare Hospice and found his calling. He held many grief recovery classes in all of Lea County, and had a real heart for helping families in their time of grief. He became the pastor at Castle Avenue Baptist Church seven years ago, a position he still held upon his death. He was a multi-talented man with a giant heart.
