Obituary of Lilace LaVerne Green

Lilace LaVerne Green May 16, 1927 - December 18, 2012 Lilace LaVerne Green passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at the age of 85. She was born Monday, May 16, 1927 in Brownfield, Texas. Her parents were Oma OrVeda (Wood) Montgomery and William Purnel Montgomery. LaVerne married Foye Leroy Green July 27, 1943 in Brownfield, Texas. The couple together managed Hearne Motor Freight Lines in Brownfield, Texas, Seminole Texas, and Hobbs, New Mexico. The Green family came to Hobbs in 1950. In1956, they worked together for the Mayflower Household goods Moving Company and Dalton Warehouses, Inc, later buying the Company in 1969 from Jack and Elaine Dalton. LaVerne and son, Leon, carried on the business until 1988.LaVerne learned to paint after retirement. She crocheted, did sewing, made dolls, and raised flowers and entered much of her works in the Lea County Fair for several years, with many honors. LaVerne was also a member of the Primitive Baptist Church since 1949. She was preceded in death by: both her parents Purnel and OrVeda Motgomery. One son, Dr. Alfred Leon Green and One sister, Edith Ehret. One grandson: Danny Ty Crinklaw. She is survived by: Two sons, David Lyndon Green of Hobbs, N.M, Monty Royce Layne Green and wife Lisa of Dallas, Tx. One daughter: Charlotte LaVeda (Green) Derden and husband Spruce Jr. Natchez MS. One Brother: Thomas Montgomery and wife Midge of Pueblo, CO. One Sister: LaVada Montgomery of Sacrameno, CA. Six Grandchildren: LaNetta (Green) Jarrett and husband Johnny of Hobbs N.M, Suzy (Green) Crinklaw Hobbs, N.M, Spruce Derden III of Jackson MS, Leighann (Derden) LeMaster and husband Jacob of Little Rock AR, Laura Green of Denton, Tx, Michael Green of Dallas T.X. Two Great grandchildren: Kristen Jarrett of Hobbs, N.M, and Zak Jarrett of Hobbs N.M. One Daughter-in-law: Barbra Green of Hobbs, NM. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church in Hobbs, N.M. with Rev. Spruce Derden Jr. officiating, assisted by Elder Conway Wood. Visitation will be on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 10:00am until; the time of the service. Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Hobbs NM.
