Obituary of Carl Charles Greenwood

Carl Charles Greenwood June 12, 1930 - February 17, 2009 Graveside funeral services for Carl “Hoot” Greenwood, 78, will be held on Friday, February 20, 2009 at 10:00 am at Lovington Cemetery with Dale Rhodes, Minister at 3rd & Central Church of Christ officiating. Services are being directed by Kirby-Smith- Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Greenwood passed away on February 17, 2009 at his residence in Lovington. He was born on June 12, 1930 in Midland, TX to Jesse & Lyda Sarah Greenwood. Mr. Greenwood was a rancher and previously owned and operated a House Moving Business for many years before his retirement. He was raised at Eunice, NM, moving there with his family in a covered wagon when he was a small boy. He was also an accomplished carpenter. Mr. Greenwood was a member of 3rd & Central Church of Christ; Girl’s & Boy’s Ranch, Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame and the New Mexico House Movers Assoc. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse & Lyda Sarah Greenwood; his first wife, Mary Helen Williams Greenwood, three sisters and 3 brothers. He is survived by his wife, Jewel Toon Greenwood of the home; five children; Marilyn & husband Jay Maner of Wolfforth, TX; Matt & wife Candy Greenwood of Hobbs, NM; and Elizabeth “Beth” & husband Darrell Stachlecker of Hobbs, NM; Carol Toon Rogers of Lovington, NM; and Lynda Toon Knoll Tungate & husband Randy of Lubbock, TX. Ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers: donations may be made in his memory to the NM Christian Children’s Home, 1356 New Mexico 236, Portales, NM 88130 or to NM Boys & Girls Ranch, PO Box 5000, Boys Ranch, NM 87002.
