Francis Marion "Buck" Buckalew July 17, 1918 - October 28, 2014 Funeral services for Francis Marion “Buck” Buckalew, 96, of Lovington, NM will be held on Monday, November 3, 2014 at 2:00 pm Central time, at Restland Memorial Park Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. Visitation will be held in Lovington at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home on Thursday, October 30th from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm and Friday, October 31st from 8:30 am until 8:00 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Buckalew was born July 17, 1918 in Dallas, Texas to F.M. and Minnie (Cooper) Buckalew and passed away at Nor-Lea Hospital on October 28, 2014. He married Lola Ruth in Dallas, TX on April 24, 1947. Buck was raised in Dallas and as a kid worked at a drug store then began driving an ambulance for a funeral home. He became a mortician and his funeral home was Buckalew Funeral Home in Dallas. Later, Buck went to work for the Dallas Sheriff’s Department and retired as a Deputy Sheriff after twenty plus years. He and his wife, Lola enjoyed traveling, fishing and camping. In the summers, Buck and his wife would take their travel trailer to Pagosa Springs, Colorado, where they stayed all summer. They moved to Lovington over 20 years ago making their home here. Buck loved old country western music on the radio and liked Johnny Cash songs. He was known in Dallas as “Captain Buck”. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife and one sister. Surviving him is one sister: Nova Jane Behm of Amarillo, TX, two nephews: Ron and Don Robison; one sister-in-law: Mary Jo Price of Houston, Texas; two nephews Gregory Price and DeWayne Glenn Price and one niece: Holly Schreder of San Antonio, TX and several other nieces and nephews; his good friends, Tony Aguinaga of Lovington, NM and Gene Chennault of Mesquite, TX.
