Obituary of Jacqueline Harns

Jacqueline "Jan" Harns January 22, 1927 - June 29, 2009 Graveside funeral services for Jacqueline “Jan” Harns, 82, will be held on Monday, July 6, 2009 at 10:00 am at Lovington Cemetery with David Stewart officiating. Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home is directing services. Ms. Harns was born on January 22, 1927 to Jack Earl & Ruth Adler Harns in Evansville, Indiana. She passed away Monday, June 29, 2009 at Lea Regional Hospital in Hobbs, NM. Jan’s father was a civil engineer which meant the family lived in the state where he was working, so she was fortunate to have lived in Vermont, New York, Maine, Missouri, Michigan and Florida during her growing up years. After receiving her B. A. degree from the University of Michigan she worked as a buyer for Carson-Prairie & Scott Dept. Store in Chicago, Illinois and then upon receiving her M. A. Degree from the University of Colorado she became a teacher. She came to Lovington in 1952 and taught with the Lovington School System for over 40 years before retiring. She was preceded in death by her parents and her friend and companion, Edith Atherton. She is survived by her brother, John & wife Pat Harns of Post Falls, Idaho, 2 nephews, Thomas Peter & wife Roberta Harns of Freeland, Whidy Island, WA., and Stephen Mark & wife Sue Anne Harns of Harrison, Idaho; 2 nieces, Barbara Ann & husband Patrick Powers of Ceaur d’ Alene, Idaho and Mary Joan & husband Don Thompkins of Grand Junction, Colorado.
