Lula "Lou" Hart
June 20, 1918 - February 08, 2018
Funeral services for Lula “Lou” Mae Hart, 99, of Hobbs, NM will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Northgate Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor and Kindred Hospice Chaplain, Dennis Durfee officiating. Visitation will be on Monday, February 12th from 5:00 pm -7:00 pm at the Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hart was born on June 20, 1918 to John Willis and Eunice (Tinney) Roberts. She was called home to be with her heavenly Father on February 8, 2018. She moved with her family at the age of five to Loraine, TX, growing up, attending school and earning the honor of Valedictorian of her graduating class of 1936. She was in sports, played basketball and was on the debate team while working hard on the family farm and attending church. She married Thomas “T.A.” Hart in 1940 and they shared sixty three years of blissful marriage. They had one child in 1950 and Hobbs became their home in 1969. She worked from a young age in the PX on base while T.A. was in the service and became an accomplished bookkeeper, working for numerous businesses, including Permian Ford, B & E, Inc. and Southwest Siding. She finally retired at the age of 80 only to come out of retirement to work with her son’s business, Hartbeat Realty, LLC. It was important to her to be active and busy. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hobbs. She also served as leader for the Girl’s Auxilary First Baptist Church in Artesia and taught Sunday school in her younger years. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, working crossword puzzles, reading and camping with friends and family in the earlier years. She was in the care of Kindred Hospice and loved all of those who showed her love and kindness and they too, expressed to her, love and caring. She was the most unselfish lady, putting family and friends before herself and was an exceptional grand and great grandmother to four much loved children. They adored her and looked forward to holidays and everyday cooking as she was “the best cook ever.” They enjoyed spending time with their “Ganny.”
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, five brothers, three sisters and a granddaughter: Sarah Kathleen Hart.
Surviving her is her son: Gerald “Jerry” and his wife Marsha (Carlton) Hart of Hobbs, NM; one sister: Maxine Miller of Lamesa, TX; grandaughter Christi and husband Ben Sturgill of Hobbs, NM and grandson Brett Hart of Hobbs, NM ; great-granddaughters Jessica and Alyssa Sturgill of Hobbs, NM and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Downs Syndrome Foundation of Southeastern New Mexico, PO Box 4365, Roswell, NM 88202.
