He graduated from Mosquero High School with the Class of 1951. He worked as an airplane engine mechanic at Convair Aircraft in San Diego, CA and then entered the Army, serving much of that time in Germany. After being discharged, he served an additional 8 years in the Army. After his service time “C.C.” attended Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM where he earned an Associate degree in printing. There he also met and married the love of his life, Millie Scott. After graduation he took jobs with newspapers in Lovington, then the Hobbs newspaper for 14 years and he made Hobbs his home. In later years he started his own extermination business in Hobbs known as Hazen Pest Control. His motto was “If in roaches you’re raising – “C” Chuck Hazen.” He was a member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church and spent many years working with the Prison Fellowship Seminars and Promise Keepers program in Texas and New Mexico. Charles was forced to retire in 1994 after a serious illness and surgery but continued his mission to bring God to anyone in need. He enjoyed using his gift of speaking Spanish in many of his endeavors. Chuck could be found daily at Isaiah’s Soup Kitchen, which was one of his favorite charities. He is remembered for his love of God, America and his fellow man. Preceding him in death were his parents, four sisters: Leona Siedel, Glenna Green, Shirley Hazen and Patsy Hazen and one brother Arthur Hazen Jr. Surviving him are three children: Leona Kim, Charlie Chandler II and Howard Hugh “Rusty”; one sister, Mary Ellen Menapace and one brother, Robin Hazen both of Albuquerque. The family would like to thank all of our friends for their patronage of the business and their loving support through family illnesses and for the kindness that has always been shown to us.
