Julius L. Bussell November 24, 1924 - April 18, 2018 Funeral services for Julius L. Bussell, 93, will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church with Pastors Matt Thackerson officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Bussell was born in Yantis, TX on November 24, 1924 to Andrew and Velma (Thornhill) Bussell and passed away at his home on April 18, 2018. He grew up in Yantis and after graduation he enlisted in the US Army serving during WWII. He was with the 482nd Bombardment group stationed in England. He married Zona Rodgers in Lovington on December 18, 1954 and they have shared 64 years of life and love together; she was the love of his life. He was employed as a production foreman for Cities Service (OXY) for forty years. Mr. Bussell was an avid “golfer”, but also enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. He took his four boys on hunting and fishing trips and supported them through the years when they played sports. He was also an avid Dallas Cowboy fan He was a happy man that loved and enjoyed his family and had a good sense of humor that kept a smile on his face. He also enjoyed going to Ruidoso to the races and in earlier years, he and his wife traveled with friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and five sisters. Surviving him is his wife, Zona of the home, four sons: Phil and wife Gayle of Hobbs, NM, Tim and wife Rosemary of Artesia, NM, Layne and wife Kim of Woodstock, IL, and Scott and wife Tina of McKinney, TX; one brother: Andy and wife Joyce Bussell of Yantis, TX; seven grandchildren: Michael J. and wife Rosemary Finley of Lubbock, TX; Jessica Bussell of Lubbock, TX; Chelsea and husband Rodney Holcomb of Carlsbad, NM; Sean Bussell of Woodstock, IL ;Katie Bussell also of Woodstock; Ryan Bussell of Ft. Bragg, N. C.; and Brendan Bussell of McKinney, TX; three great-grandchildren: Justin Porterria, Michael D. Finley and Julijah Finley and a host of friends. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 from 10:30 –service time at First Baptist Church.
