Well, I lost my best friend this week, There will never be another Joe Byers. Joe and I talked on the phone every other day, serious things, funny things, family things, life things etc..., and I always hung up a happier, wiser person from spending some time talking to this wise, strong, sweet Christian man. Oh how I will miss him. I would love to write a book about Joe .....the only thing ,is no one would believe a man could be that perfect, but he really was. I love you with all my heart forever and ever my dear uncle Joe. Nancy Short Toone

Joe was a righteous man of God, an American hero & Patriot and a humble, kind soul. A finer man would be very hard to find. His lamp shined on all those who had the privilidge to have met him...and he will always be an inspiration to me. We lost a shining light but Jesus brought him home.

Thank You Lord for giving our family Joe Byers. He has been an blessed example to me, all my life. From a small child, as far back as I can remember. Uncle Joe was a solid rock and in many ways a 2nd dad, especially after my dad left this earth. From dancing with me, and many others, on his shoes, carrying me on his shoulders, a constant presence in church and choir, to teaching me when I was a teen in a Sunday School and was trying to explain Eternity to a group of restless teens, by taking a long string, holding up one end of it and letting the other go, showing there is No end to it) to selflessly taking care of our dear Mimi, after Dad Byers died, to loving us all unconditionally, I will be eternally grateful you are My dear Uncle Joe.

Joe was a perpetual inspiration for how to live a long, healthy, spiritual life of community service, fellowship, love and kindness. His tall, gentle presence could always bring a sense of calm over a room and I'm sure his memory will continue to bring a sense of calm over the hearts of those who knew him.

heart brake and pride all at once reading the article about uncle joes passing.uncle joe and papaw were the two finest men ive ever known and no doubt the little good i have shared in this world i learned from them. i remember eating lunch everyday with uncle joe at nana and papaws house and the time papaw and i spent half a day looking for a special pocket knife for joes birthday. in the evenings when i was little i would stand at the dirt road in front of nana and papaws house and yell to everyone ,uncle joe is coming, and we would all walk together every night to the cattle gaurd while i listened to wisdom of two great men,i really miss that. fishing trips ,camping, and making homemade soda pop were just a few things uncle joe did for me when i was young and in my horrible childhood he was a light that never waivered rest in peace uncle joe a soldier of god and good.
