Obituary of Jean Howell

Jean Howell June 11, 1927 - June 10, 2008 Jean Howell was born on June 11, 1927 in Munday, Texas to Don and Vera Wells. She passed away on June 10, 2008 in Boerne, Texas. She grew up in Quannah, Texas where she graduated from High School in 1944. She attended Texas Women’s University in Denton and graduated in May of 1948. She married Howard “Chub” Howell on August 29, 1948. They moved to Lovington, New Mexico in August of 1949. She taught for 35 years at Llano, Yarbro, and Jefferson Elementary Schools retiring in May of 1986. She enjoyed her many years of teaching and hoped her efforts would “make the world a better place.” She also enjoyed being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Beta Sigma Phi for many years. Her retirement years were spent traveling and volunteering with Hospice in Lovington. She and Chub moved to Boerne, Texas in January of 2007 to be closer to family members. She was preceded in death by her parents: Don and Vera Wells, her brother, Ray Wells, and her grandson, Nicholas Drew. Left behind to cherish her memories are her husband of almost 60 years, Howard “Chub” Howell of Boerne, TX; her daughters: Donna (Howell) Drew & husband, James Drew of Corpus Christi, Texas and Paula (Howell) Christo and husband, Joe Christo of San Antonio, Texas and two granddaughters, Meredith Christo of Austin, Texas and Lindsay Christo of San Antonio, Texas and a host of friends and other family members. Jean’s blessings included being loved by her extended family and friends who were drawn to her kindness and sweet personality. Her family and friends draw strength from the assurance that this is not the end, but the beginning of a new life for her with the Lord. Words cannot express how much they loved her and will miss her. There will be a memorial service at Morningside Ministries, 100 Grand Boulevard in Boerne, at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, June 11th. Visitation will be at Kirby-Smith- Rogers Funeral Home in Lovington on Friday, June 13th from 8:00 am- 8:00 pm with family in residence from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral services will be at the First United Methodist church in Lovington on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Vergil Ichtertz officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery with services conducted by Kirby-Smith- Rogers Funeral Home. In Lieu of Flowers: Friends of Lovington Public Library – 115 S.
