Obituary of Joan Geneva Hughes

Joan Geneva Hughes March 08, 1933 - September 19, 2014 Funeral services for Joan Geneva Hughes, 81, of Lovington, NM will be held on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 10:00 am at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Chapel with Bro. Ray Poskey officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Joan was born in Coleman, Texas on March 8, 1933 to Horace and Clara (Knapp) Choate and passed away on September 19, 2014 at her residence. She married Hardy “Douglas” Hughes in Lovington on June 23, 1956. She loved traveling, and with Douglas working overseas , they were able to travel quite extensively. They lived in Scotland for awhile and Joan would plan trips touring Europe taking her friends with her, while her husband worked. She was a “good granny” and especially liked keeping those grandson’s clean that she raised. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother: Jimmy Choate; one infant sister and one grandson: A.P Smith. She is survived by her husband, Hardy Douglas Hughes of Lovington, NM; two daughters: Donna Kay Marshall of Lamesa, TX and Connie and husband Benny Flowers of Lamesa, TX; six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
