Morris C. Jennison

Memorial services for Morris C. Jennison, 89, of Lovington, will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at First United Methodist Church at 2:00 pm with Reverend Vergil Ichtertz officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Services are being conducted by Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home.
Mr. Jennison was born on June 6, 1921 in Ponca, Nebraska to Jack and Clara (Wilbur) Jennison and passed away on December 22, 2010 in Lovington, NM. He Married Mary Garnand Wright in Salina, Kansas on June 19, 1944. Mr. Jennison was honorably discharged as a Captain in the US Army Air Force, flying over 1800 hrs. as a radar navigator during WWII. He was a member of the American Legion in Lovington. Morrie received his B.S. from the University of Nebraska and his Masters Degree in 1957 from Oklahoma State University. He came to Lovington in 1957 and taught for 30 years at Lovington High School. In 1962 he was awarded the honor of being NM Biology Teacher of the State and in 1965 he was the LHS teacher of the year. He started the Science fair at LHS and had 14 students go to the International Science Fair. He has had a textbook dedicated to him, wrote poetry books himself and was a faithful 53 year member of First United Methodist Church. He served as a Sunday school teacher and was active in the Christian Men’s prayer breakfast group. He enjoyed antiques, arrowhead hunting, of which he has a vast collection. His greatest joy was his wife and family and serving others.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one daughter: Rosemary Good; one son: James Sidney Jennison; his brother: John Jennison and sister: Ida Mae Camburn.
Surviving him are his wife, Mary of the home, one son: Jack Jennison of Lovington, NM; one daughter: Ruth Ann Jennison-Williams and husband Gerry Williams of Albuquerque, NM; five grandchildren: Elissa Jennison of Rolla, MO; Amanda and husband Richard Mogg of Lubbock, TX; Brandon Hurlbert of Dallas, TX; Shawn Good of Austin, TX and Blake Jennison of Lovington, NM and two great-grandchildren: Mylah and Sydney Mogg of Lubbock, TX.
