Obituary of Gloria Jernigan

Gloria Jernigan May 09, 1951 - April 30, 2018 Memorial services for Gloria Jernigan, 66, of Lovington, NM will be held on Monday, May 7, 2018 at 10:00 am at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Bro. Chad Wease officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Jernigan was born in Natchitoches, Louisiana on May 9, 1951 to Samuel Gilbert and Myrtis (Sims) Gilcrease and passed away in Lubbock, TX on April 30, 2018. She grew up in Louisiana and moved to Hobbs, NM when she was in the sixth grade and graduated from Hobbs High School. She married Keith Jernigan in 1970 and they resided in Hobbs until 1976 then moved to Pampa, TX for a couple of years before returning to Hobbs. Gloria was a “no-nonsense” woman that didn’t believe in wasting a day, so she liked to get an early start. She always had many projects going; liked caring for her garden and yard and was a great cook and caregiver for many. She has been a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church for many years and was a Sunday school teacher for the young girls at one time. She loved the Lord and ministered by visiting the people at the nursing homes. In earlier years Gloria had been employed at La Siesta Nursing home as an aide and then as dietary manager and also at the detention center for fourteen years as floor officer and then booking office. She loved playing golf with her husband and traveling and camping with the family and especially loved fishing and she usually caught the most fish. She really liked SciFi and worked hard to get the kids addicted also. She was a hard working woman with a big heart and had great compassion for others but her passion was her family that she loved very much. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Terry and Larry Gilcrease and one sister: Diana Caudill. Surviving her is her husband Keith; two sons: Dan and wife Paula Jernigan of Albuquerque and Jeff and wife Tara Jernigan of Lovington; two brothers: Roy and Theresa Gilcrease of Hobbs and Tommy Gilcrease of Hobbs and four grandchildren: Seth, Ian, Taylor and Dylan
