Gary Lynn Kidd
March 31, 1942 - March 09, 2018
Ephesians:2:8 “For by grace are you saved through faith, and not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.”
Gary Lynn Kidd was called to be with his heavenly Father due to bone cancer on March 9, at 75 years of age. We rejoice in the Lord that there will be no more pain nor tears. The Lord’s grace is sufficient for you. II Corinthians 12:9. Gary was born on March 31, 1942 in Dawson County, Lamesa, TX. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 10:00 am at 3rd & Central Church of Christ Fellowship Hall with David Stewart officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, J.L. Kidd Jr and Glynn Cornett Kidd; two brothers: Jimmy Wade Kidd and James Glenn Kidd.
Surviving him is his son, Gary Leslie Kidd (Sonia) and children; Alexis, Brianna and Nathaniel of Las Cruces, NM; a sister: Barbara Wyatt (Bill) and nephew Jim Wyatt (Kristin) and Owen and Lincoln of Needville, TX; two nieces, Kandi O”Bryant of Gun Barrel, TX, Stacy Brewer (Anthony) of Tatum, NM; Grand nieces, Amber Kidd of Idaho and Sydnee Hilbern of Houston, TX and grand-nephew Bailey O’Bryant of Idaho. Also, two special lifelong friends and hunting buddies, Tommy Cummings and Bill Stokes of Lovington, NM. He depended on them for much help.
Gary lived in Lea county until the 5th grade in 1953 when the family moved to Willcox, AZ to break ground on ranchland and put into cultivation with his dad. In 1962, the family returned to Lea County to farm again. Soon after, he went to work for Abbott Brothers Drilling in Hobbs and learned their business. He later began drilling wells on his own, drilling wells for over 50 years in Lea County. As we drove the backroads he would point out many wells he had completed. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed being outdoors. When he was not drilling a well, he was roaming the country side looking for arrowheads and “rocks”. He was privileged to draw out after 26 years, to hunt for antelope and deer this past October. He harvested the antelope pictured above. The family would like to express our thanks for those who visited Gary in the nursing home at Hobbs where he had resided since July, 2017. Also a thank you to gracious staff at Nor-Lea Cancer Center and Hobbs Home Health Care, and friends and family that helped Gary to work through his health issues since June of 2017. It takes a community to help those in need. He will be missed by many.
