Obituary of Polly Bailey

Polly Bailey June 14, 1929 - February 28, 2010 Our precious mother, Pauline “Polly” Bailey, passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2010, at her home of over 55 years that was built with love by her husband, Bill Bailey. Polly celebrated her 80th birthday on June 14, 2009. She was born in 1929 in Dallas, Texas to J. D. and Roma Smith and was united in marriage to Bill Bailey on January 22, 1947 at the Church of Christ in Lovington. A memorial service will be held at Third and Central Church of Christ in Lovington on Saturday, March 6 at 11:00 a.m. to celebrate and honor her life. Bro. J. D. Ford Jr. and Dale Rhodes, Minister, will officiate. After bravely fighting the ravages of diabetes for many years, Polly proudly decided to donate her body to the Texas Tech School of Medicine hoping it would benefit others. Helping to prepare her body for the journey to Lubbock was Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home, the funeral home her parents, J.D. and Roma Smith owned and operated for many years which was built by her husband, Bill Bailey. Polly was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ in Lovington and she was the Sweetheart of the Open Range Cowboys several years ago. Preceding her in death was her husband, her parents, J.D. and Roma Smith, a young brother, Douglas Smith, her sister, Maxine Alexander, and a niece Pat Clark. Polly is survived by her son and his wife, Doug and Nancy Bailey and her daughter and husband, Ree and Mike Hoyl, all of Lovington. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, beaucoups of great-grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and brothers and sisters-in-law…. all so beloved to Polly. She also leaves behind many dear and true friends. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to any charity of your choice especially those benefitting children.
