Obituary of Ronald Lee Kirkland

Ronald "Ron" Lee Kirkland November 06, 1934 - April 16, 2018 Ronald Lee “Ron” Kirkland, 83, of Lovington, NM went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 16, 2018 in Lubbock, Texas. He was born on November 6, 1934 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Grover Cleveland and Eupha Mary Jane (Wilson) Kirkland. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 10:00 am at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Chapel with Raye Sosa officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Ron graduated from Central High School in Tulsa, OK and then attended Tulsa University on a football scholarship. He served in the United States Air Force and spent his working life in the oilfields all across the United States. He married Barbara Ann Davis in Pawnee, OK on December 19, 1963 and they have shared 54 years of life and love together. He was her best friend always. Ron was a member of Jackson Ave Baptist Church, having accepted Christ at the age of thirty five. He loved the Lord and served Him on several mission trips and was the leader for the Royal Ambassadors. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: James and Donald Kirkland. Surviving him is his wife, Barbara of the home; two daughters: Cheryl and husband Marc Fields of Lovington and Sonja and husband Jason Schmidt of Sierra Vista, AZ; one granddaughter: Bethany and husband Josh Osborn of Lakewood, CO ; grandson: Joseph Schmidt of Sierra Vista, AZ and one great-grandaughter: Audrey Osborn of Lakewood, CO; also two sisters: Dorthea JoAnn Palmore of Arlington, TX and Wanda Kay and husband Roland Dadivas of Manassas, Virginia. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2018 from 3:00 – 6:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Baptist Children’s Home, 2200 South Ave I, Portales, NM 88130 in memory of Ron.
