Obituary of Joel Leal

Watch the Tribute Joel Leal March 07, 1963 - June 07, 2014 Funeral services for Joel Leal, 51, of Lubbock, TX and formerly of Lovington will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Manuel Ibarra officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Joel was born in Lockney, Texas to Juan and Olivia (Ortiz) Leal on March 7, 1963 and passed away at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, TX on June 7, 2014. He lived in Lovington while growing up and attended school here. He enjoyed fishing, camping, boating and skiing and any kind of water sports. Joel worked in the oilfield and also did mechanic work until the last several years when he was in an accident and unable to work. He was a loving son, dad and granddad and will be greatly missed. Joel is survived by his mother, Olivia Ortiz of Lubbock, TX, his father, Juan Leal of Hobbs, NM and two sons: Christopher Leal and fiancée, Lupe Garcia of Lovington and Josh and fiancée, Amy Hewitt of Lovington; one daughter: Kristen Leal and companion Jeremy Cervantes of Hobbs, NM and three brothers: Juan and wife Sylvia Leal of Hobbs, NM; Jesse Leal of Lubbock, TX and Jamie Leal and companion Cathy Stone of Hobbs, NM; and six grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 from 10:00 am until rosary time. Rosary will be Tuesday at 7:00 pm at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home.
