A. G. Lewis April 07, 1924 - July 12, 2017 Funeral services for A. G. Lewis, 93, of Lovington, NM will be held on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at 10:00 am at Jackson Ave Baptist Church with Bro. Dave Rowser officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. A.G. was born on April 7, 1924 in Nashville, Arkansas to Allen H. and Susie Helen (Collins) Lewis and passed away on July 12, 2017 in Lubbock, TX. He grew up in Arkansas, attending school in Mineral Springs, AR. He entered the army immediately after graduation and served his country during World War II. A.G. landed on Normandy Beach on “D” day and fought valiantly in many notable battles including the Battle for St. Lo and the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Lewis returned to Arkansas after his discharge., He went to McCamey, TX with his brother to work in the oil field where he met the love of his life, Alma Nell Jones. They were married in Crane, TX on April 18, 1948 and shared sixty-nine years of life together. They came to Lovington in 1957 and raised their three daughters here. A.G. and Nell joined Jackson Ave Baptist Church in 1957 and have been active members. A.G. was a member of Lovington Lodge # 46, serving faithfully for over 52 years. He served as Past Master and he loved his lodge brothers. He was especially good at beating many of them in domino games and enjoyed every time they were together. He stuck with the Dallas Cowboys regardless of their circumstances and was most importantly an avid Wildcat fan. However, his greatest joy and happiness came from his wife, children and grandchildren. He loved his family and was a kind and compassionate friend. Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, one grandbaby: Emily Bush; one brother: Walter B. Lewis and three sisters: Louise Akins, Mildred Barnett and infant baby Ruth Lewis. Surviving him is his widow, Nell of the home, three daughters: Becky and husband Roger Davis of Lovington, Kathy Powell of Cañon City, CO, and Cindy Bush of Lovington; one sister: Dorothy Kuhn of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation will be on Monday, July 17, 2017 from 2:30 pm until 7:00 pm with family in residence at funeral home from 5:30 -7:00 pm.
