Obituary of Barbara Nell Locklar

Barbara Nell Locklar January 12, 1937 - January 22, 2018 Funeral services for Barbara Nell Locklar, 81, of Jal, NM will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Calvary Baptist Church with Bro. Alan Speed officiating. Burial will follow at Jal Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Locklar was born on January 12, 1937 in Ft. Worth, TX to James Leon and Nella Mae (McManus) Hanes and passed away in Midland, TX on January 22, 2018. She grew up in Ft. Worth and started school there, moving to Snyder, Coleman and then to Midland where she graduated from high school in 1955. She married James Henry Locklar on July 21, 1956 and in 1966 they moved to the Dollarhide Ranch, making their home there for twenty eight years before moving into Jal. Barbara loved the ranch and was a great rancher's wife and was a great cook. She did the cooking for her family and the ranchhands. She enjoyed going swimming with her kids; going to their playdays and was a crackshot with a BB gun. She was very good at racing against her son as she liked to drive fast and usually won the race. She enjoyed reading and writing and was committed to her journal. She had choreographed her life with her journals. Barbara was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a very spiritual woman that loved reading and studying her Bible and was a dedicated Christian. She was a loving, fun, talented, accomplished lady for "all time" and she will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Surviving her are her three sons: Curt and wife Sindy Locklar of Midland, Tag and wife Joanne Locklar of Midland and Scooter and wife Jeanne Locklar of Andrews, TX; one sister: Susan Lee and husband Dee Carter of Midland; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, PO Box 1150, Jal, NM 88252 in Barbara's memory. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10:00 am until 12:30 at the church before the service.
