Obituary of Wayne Mahan

Wayne Mahan November 15, 1938 - June 08, 2017 Memorial services for Wayne Mahan, 78, of Hobbs, NM will be held on Friday, June 16, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Steve Taylor officiating. Mr. Mahan was born on November 15, 1938 in Carlsbad, NM to Ernest J. and Nadine (Taylor) Mahan and passed away on June 8, 2017 in Hobbs, NM. Wayne was a farm boy and moved to Lea County when he was very young. He loved coaching and loved being a cowboy. He was the best Little League Baseball coach and always coached his team to be winners. The boys he coached loved and respected him as he taught them honesty, good sportsmanship and to treat others right. One of his greatest joys was team roping and in 1991 he was the Champion Header and he could also heel. It was said that he never missed. He attended Cowboy Junction Church and in February of 2000, Wayne married Lyn Hudgens and they attended St. Helena’s in Hobbs. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife: Vickey Mahan; one son: Greg Mahan and one brother: Wallace Mahan. Surviving him is his wife Lyn, of the home; one son: Larry and wife Shelley Mahan of Lovington and one daughter: Donda Mahan Murph of Keller, TX; two grandchildren: Troy Murph of Justin, TX and Kristin Mahan of Lubbock, TX; two great-grandchildren: Kaelee Mahan and Kaleb Mahan, and a host of friends.
