Obituary of Vicente M Marquez

Watch the Tribute Vicente M Marquez January 22, 1932 - March 24, 2014 Funeral services for Vicente “Papi” Marquez, 82, of Lovington, NM will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 9:00 am at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Manuel Ibarra officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Marquez was born on January 22, 1932 in Manuel Benavides, Chihuahua, Mexico to Rafael and Sabina (Moreno) Marquez and passed away on March 24, 2014 at his residence. He married Dominga Cabello in Santa Elena, Chihuahua in July of 1957. Vicente was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and was active in various organizations. He was director of the Crusillitas, Knights of Columbus and several more. He worked as a mechanic and rig supervisor in the oilfield. His hobbies included gardening, tending his fruit and pecan trees and hunting. He enjoyed playing games with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was a diehard Cowboy fan. Vicente was a loving, spiritual, giving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was willing to help anyone who needed a hand and would not hesitate to help wherever he could. He loved being with his wife, kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and one of his favorite things to do was teach them about Christ, life, love, family, gardening and hard work. Many of these lessons were learned sitting around the table drinking coffee with him. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one granddaughter, Clarissa Garcia and one brother, Reyes Marquez. He is survived by his wife, Dominga of the home, four sons: Frank and wife Dawn Marquez of Odessa, TX, Manuel and wife Josie Marquez of Hobbs, NM; Paul and wife Margie Marquez of Hobbs, and Tony and wife Alejandra Marquez of San Diego, CA; three daughters: Maria and husband Sammy Garcia of Las Cruces, NM; Erlinda and husband Bill Jones II of Lake City, FL and Marisela Marquez of Las Cruces, NM; also three brothers: Librado and wife Ramona Marquez; Polo and wife Andrea Marquez and Refugio and wife Lourdes Marquez all of Lovington and two sisters: Candelaria Marquez and Julia Marquez both of Lovington; sixteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Rosary will be on Wednesday at St. Thomas Catholic Church at 7:00 pm and visitation will also be Wednesday, March 26, 2014 from 9:00 am until Rosary time.
