Julia Imogene McClure August 06, 1916 - October 05, 2013 On Saturday, October 5, 2013, Julia Imogene McClure left her earthly home for her Heavenly home. She celebrated 97 years on her earthly home with family and friends. Imogene was the only child of R. J. and Mary May Hendricks. She was born on the family homestead south of Tatum, NM and attended Tatum schools, graduating in 1934. After graduation she moved to Lubbock, TX, attending and graduating from Draughan Business College. After completing her education she returned to the family homestead and worked for Inland Utilities, the predecessor of Lea County Electric. Prior to and after WWII, she worked as a legal secretary for Tom Hanners. During WWII she was employed at the Hobbs Army Airfield. While working and living in Lovington, she met and married E. F. “Slim” McClure in October of 1949. Imogene was the Open Range Cowboy’s Association Queen in 2009 and has been the oldest cowgirl for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, traveling to Nashville, the fiddler’s music, working in her yard and flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by two daughters: Mary McClure and Julia McClure Myers and husband Buddy all of Lovington and two granddaughters: Beth Myers of Lovington and Ellen Myers Wilson and husband Matt of Arlington, TX. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church with David Villar officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 10th from 8:30 am until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
