Alvie Tearl "Shorty" McCraw March 17, 1935 - October 12, 2016 Graveside services for Alvie “Shorty” McCraw, 81, of Hobbs, NM and formerly of Lovington, will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Resthaven Cemetery with Reverend Matt Bridges officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Shorty was born on March 17, 1935 in Scullin, OK to Carl Wilson and Tillie Lovenia E. (Tivis) McCraw and passed away in Lubbock, Texas on October 12, 2016. He grew up on a ranch as a ranch hand and also helped with the making of some of Dale Evans and Roy Rogers movies in Oklahoma. He had his business, “Shorty’s Mobile Home Service” moving mobile homes and worked for Ted’s Mobile Home Service and Supply and also ran some service stations. He liked dancing and fishing and telling fish stories and really loved the old country/western songs, especially Charlie Pride. Drinking coffee with his buddies or the “Liar’s Club” as they were called, at the ranchhouse was a favorite pastime of Shorty’s. He also loved spoiling his dog. He was a well-liked and well- respected man and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Alvin and another brother Carl Jr; and also by his two wives: Nadine and Alene. Shorty is survived by one son: Stephen and wife Mary Eileen McCraw; two daughters: Sharon McCraw and Tammy and husband Dale Dunlap all of Lovington; One sister: Lavona Carol Brents of Ft. Smith Arkansas; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren . Visitation will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016 from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm with the family in residence from 6:00 pm -7:00 pm at the funeral home.
