Obituary of William McDonald

William "Jack" McDonald February 22, 1930 - March 28, 2014 Graveside funeral services for William “Jack” McDonald, 84, of Lovington, NM will be held on Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Lovington Cemetery at 2:00 pm with David Stewart officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. McDonald was born on February 22, 1930 in Oilton, Oklahoma to William M. and Florence Ellen (Jackson) McDonald and passed away at Lovington Good Samaritan Center on Friday, March 28, 2014. Jack married Louise Bias in Oilton, Oklahoma in 1948 and they came to Lovington in 1954. He was employed by Mobil Oil, first as a gauger and later became a superintendent and retired after forty plus years from the company. He was called “Okie” by all the friends he worked with at Mobil. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing and woodworking and in early years he would umpire the boys little league and help with the Boy Scouts. He was a gentle man who always had a smile for everyone and he loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a long time member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, his parents and one brother, Jimmy Ray McDonald and two sisters, Barbara McDonald and Ruby Jean Thornhill. He is survived by four daughters: Theresa and husband Rickie Jones of Lovington; Lark Ann and husband Jimmy Carney of Monahans, TX; Jackie McDonald of Hobbs, NM and Claudette McDonald of Lovington; one brother, John and wife Carolyn McDonald of Gainsville, Missouri and one sister, Nora and husband Melvin Bates of Canadian, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren and a host of friends. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 31, 2014 from 8:30 am until 8:00 pm and Tuesday from 8:30 am until noon
