Lee Roy Box March 20, 1930 - May 02, 2015 Funeral services for Lee Roy Box, 85, of Lovington, NM will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 1:00 pm at 3rd & Central Church of Christ with David Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Plains Cemetery in Plains, Texas at 3:00 pm NM time. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Box was born on March 20, 1930 in Plains, TX to Marcus Leroy and Adele (Patterson) Box and passed away at his home on Saturday, May 2, 2015. He grew up at Plains, TX and married Carol Hughes in Lubbock on April 26, 1958. He loved farming and ranching and spent his life enjoying that occupation. He was a quiet man, a very kind, loving man with sparkling eyes and a good sense of humor and one of his favorite sayings was, “it’s going to work out”. He was very patient and took care of things and loved reading, especially to his granddaughters. He would take them to library and the lizard races and “never said no to them”. Lee Roy served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the VFW. He was a member of 3rd & Central Church of Christ and had resided in Lea County for fifty seven years. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter: Kimberly Hines; an infant sister: Lee Catherine Box; and three brothers: Hayden, Tom and Robert Box. Lee Roy is survived by his wife, Carol of the home; one daughter: Lebeth and husband Kelvin Fortner of Flower Mound, TX and two granddaughters: Laura Fortner of Washington D.C. and Morgan Fortner of Flower Mound, TX, and numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held on Monday, May 4, 2015 from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Nor-Lea Foundation, Cancer Center, c/o Allison Roberts, 1600 N. Main, Lovington, NM 88260.
