Funeral services for Bernardo Rodriguez Olivas, 79, of Odessa, TX, will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church in Tatum, NM with Elio Barrios Officiating. Burial will follow at Tatum Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 1, 2016 from12:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Olivas was born on August 20, 1936 in Barranco de Guadalupe, Chihuahua, Mexico to Jesus J. and Juliana R. Rodriguez Olivas and passed away in Odessa, TX on June 30, 2016. Bernardo enjoyed growing vegetables and fruits, especially squash, pumpkins, cantaloupe, and watermelon and he liked raising chickens, goats and pigs. He worked as a contractor driving employees out to the fields to work. He was very adamant that if you were not on time to be picked up, you got left behind. He was also that way with his family; if they weren’t ready to go when he was, they were left behind. He liked music and dancing and loved taking care of his grandchildren, especially his favorites, Armando and Panchito. He would take them with him to work. He always had something to give to each family member every time they went to his house to visit.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Anatolia Lopez and Guadalupe Hernandez; one brother: Sixto Olivas and one granddaughter: Laura Olivas.
He is survived by four sons: Raul and wife Linda Olivas of Clovis, NM, Melquidez Olivas of Odessa, TX, Margarito Olivas of Muleshoe, TX and Benardo Jr. and wife Dora of Muleshoe, TX; four daughters: Alejandra and husband Victor Arenivas of Odessa, TX, Marianita and husband Oscar Estrado of Mulshoe, TX, Gracie Orrantia of Tatum, NM and Anabel Olivas of Dallas, TX; one brother: Frolian and wife Virginia Olivas of Tatum, NM; four sisters: Juana Sanchez of Tatum,NM, Maria and David De La O of Tatum, NM, Jesusita Salinas of Jal, NM and Cesaria and husband Ireineio Lopez of Artesia, NM. Also twenty six grandchildren and forty three great-grandchildren.
