Obituary of Elizabeth Pawelek

Elizabeth "Ann" Pawelek September 16, 1959 - August 05, 2017 Funeral services for Elizabeth “Ann” Pawelek 57, of Lovington, NM will be held on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 10:00 am at Jackson Ave. Baptist Church with Bro. Matt Ray and Pastor Anthony Brewer officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Ann was born on September 16, 1959 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Troy Owens and Doris Ellen (Smith) Owens and passed away on August 5, 2017 in Lubbock, TX. Ann moved with her family at five weeks of age to Ft. Bragg, CA and later attended school in Kennevale, CA before moving to Lovington finishing school and graduating in 1978 from LHS. Ann was quite a fun person and would pretend to be her sister Mary’s, mom and check her out of school so they could go shopping or just enjoy the day. She would take her best friend, Karen Shurette and they would have a wonderful time. Ann worked as a dietician at Nor- Lea Hospital when it re-opened and also at Hobbs Health Care as a dietician. She was then employed with Haarmeyer Electric as Safety Director for many years. She liked having fun playing golf, taking cruises all over the Caribbean with her husband John and friends and liked to scuba dive. Ann was an active and involved member of Crosswinds Church, organizing, planning and activating many ministries and also taught Sunday School classes. She was, as her daughter remarked, “stubborn and firey” and honest even when you didn’t want to hear it, but she was a joyful, kind person who loved her family and friends and it always made you feel happy to be around her with her spontaneity. She was preceded in death by her Father. Surviving her is her husband, John of the home, her mother, Doris Owens of Fruita, CO; one daughter: Melissa Ann Pawelek and fiancée, Bryon Buxkemper of Lubbock, TX; two brothers: Troy and wife Pauline Owens of Tacoma, WA and DeWayne and wife Cindi of Fruita, CO; one sister: Mary and husband Andy Haarmeyer of Lovington and nine nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
