Wayne Villar officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Marjorie passed away peacefully on July 13, 2011 at Nor-Lea Hospital. She was born on March 19, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio to Hal and Myrtel (Hasse) Etz. She was a lady full of life, joy, and enjoyed caring for others. She was characterized by grace, class, honesty, and integrity—a selfless woman who was always searching for ways to serve those around her. Marjorie was the brown-eyed and brunette twin sister to the blue-eyed and blonde Betty Rhoades. The twin sisters graduated from Highland Park High School in Dallas, Texas in 1946. In the fall of 1947, they attended the Monticello College for Women. Marjorie preferred to call it the Monticello College for "Proper Young Ladies." The sisters then transferred to the University of Texas in 1948. That same year, Marjorie traveled to Sweetwater, Texas for a friend's wedding. While walking to the bus stop with a friend, she met John Boyd. John and Marjorie soon fell in love and were married in Sweetwater on June 30, 1950. The life-long city girl soon found herself living in the middle of the country, as she and her new husband moved to Lovington in January 1952 to work on the Boyd family farm. She spent the rest of her life in their home on that very farm. She was a gracious mother to two sons, John Lee Boyd Jr., born in 1952, and Scot Harold Boyd, born in 1953. She seemed to love nothing more than to spend time with her grandchildren. She was a fun, caring, and loving grandmother to four grandsons and two granddaughters: Brandon Boyd, Heather Boyd McCallon, Austin Boyd, Trenton Boyd, Seth Boyd, and Alexis Boyd. She was also a great-grandmother to four great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters: Christian Boyd, Zachary Boyd, Ethan Boyd, Arle McCallon, Braxton Boyd, and Rayn Boyd. Marjorie was a member of the Iris Garden Club for over 50 years and served as club president multiple times. She was also a member of the "Chat & Chew" Bridge Club for over 30 years. She served as Director of the Lovington Youth Center during the late 60's and early 70's and, during this time, also thoroughly enjoyed substitute teaching for the Lovington Public Schools. She was proud of her accomplishment as a two-time winner in the Women's Beginner Golf Flight, although she never revealed how she managed to be considered a beginner after having won once before. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Betty Rhoades; brother, George Etz; and great-grandson, Elijah Cole Boyd. She is survived by her: husband, John Boyd of Lovington; two sons, Lee Boyd and wife Nanci, of Lovington and Scot Boyd and wife Melissa of Lovington; grandson, Brandon Boyd and wife Becky of Lubbock; granddaughter, Heather McCallon and husband Travis of Kansas City; grandson, Austin Boyd and wife Becca of Lovington; grandsons, Trenton Boyd, Seth Boyd and granddaughter Alexis Boyd all of Lovington; great-grandsons, Christian, Zachary, and Ethan Boyd of Nashville; great-granddaughter, Arle McCallon of Kansas City; great-grandson, Braxton Boyd of Lovington and great-granddaughter Rayn Boyd of Lubbock. Pallbearers will be Brandon Boyd, Austin Boyd, Trenton Boyd, Seth Boyd, Travis McCallon and Brett Morgan. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Boyd, Wade Shipley J.L. Bussell, Kent Chambers, Ross Black, Charlie Campbell, Gary Cothran, Tony Smith, Gerald Phillips, Charlie Robinson, Jerry Sexton, Jim Larman, Forrest Henry, Leon Faris, Carrol Martin, Randy Boyd, Morgan Hooper, Ronnie Harris and LCPL Justin Blackburn. Visitation will be Saturday, July 16, 2011 from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm and Sunday from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
