Watch the Tribute Penelope Childers Phillips September 30, 1939 - July 18, 2014 Penelope “Penny” Childers Phillips, 74, of Lovington, NM passed away in Lubbock, TX after an extended illness on July 18, 2014, with her family by her side. Penny was born September 30, 1939 in Eldorado, Texas to Edwin Oscar and Thelma Irene (Anderson) Childers. She married Joe Wayne Phillips in Lovington, NM on June 13, 1957. Penny was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member and Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star #140 in El Dorado, TX and of the Baptist affiliation. She was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Erin Ashley Phillips ; one daughter-in-law: Cynthia Shae Phillips; one brother: Patrick Childers; two sisters: Gayle Willy and Irene Sudduth. She is survived by her husband, Joe of 57 years; one daughter: Dr. Thelma Jodale Phillips of Santa Teresa, NM; two sons: David Patrick “D.P.” Phillips and wife Cecilia of Alamogordo, NM and Joe Paul Phillips of Lovington, NM; one brother: David Oscar Childers and wife Nancy of Waco, TX; one granddaughter: Kristin Phillips of Alamogordo, NM; three grandsons: Kelly Phillips and wife Sara of El Cajon, CA, Ian Phillips and Kaelan Phillips of Lovington, NM and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at 10:00 am at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home with Bro. Dave Rowser, pastor of Jackson Ave Baptist Church officiating.
