Norma Jean Chaffin October 02, 1929 - July 25, 2009 Memorial services for Norma “Jean” Chaffin, 79, will be held Friday, July 31, 2009 at 10:00 A. M. at First United Methodist Church with Reverends Vergil Ichtertz and Mack McCarthick officiating. Private family burial will be at a later time. Mrs. Chaffin was born in El Dorado, Arkansas to Thomas Valco & Alma Imogene (Dozier) Garrett Sr. on October 2, 1929 and passed away on July 25, 2009 at Lovington Good Samaritan Center. She graduated in 1947 from Crane, TX., and married B. D. “Jack” Chaffin in Crane on October 2, 1948 and moved to Lovington in 1955 raising her family here. She was a member of First United Methodist Church & Nor-Lea Hospital Auxiliary. She was an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast, enjoyed reading & watching Jeopardy, as she usually knew all the answers. Her family was always her main concern and love. She is survived by one son: Chris Chaffin & fiancé, Melissa Borrego of Los Angeles, California, two daughters: Kathy & husband Ray Smith of Lovington, NM and Janis & husband Jimmy Waechter of Hobbs, NM, one sister: Billie Ross of Culleoka, Tennessee and four grandchildren: Cari & husband Pete Degan of Minn. MN, Jeremy & wife Frankki Waechter of Andrews, TX., Jace Waechter and Jared & wife Celest Waechter of Austin, TX., and one great-grandson, Jack Degan of Minn, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack Chaffin, 1 sister, Sandra Stivender and 2 brothers, Pepper & Malcolm Garrett. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to First United Methodist Church, General Fund, PO Box 745, Lovington, NM 88260 or to Covenant Medical Center, Pallative Care Services, 3615 19th St., Box 119, Lubbock, TX 79410. The family will be receiving friends and fellowship on Thursday, July 30th from 6 pm until 8 pm at 402 West Clayton, Lovington, NM.
