Obituary of Katherine Elizabeth Porter

Katherine Elizabeth Porter October 21, 1938 - December 20, 2013 Funeral services for Katherine Porter, 75, of Lovington, will be held on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Trinity Baptist Church with Bro. Andy LaReau officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Katherine was born on October 21, 1938 in Rhineland,Texas to Louis Fredrik and Tina Bell (Washburn) Striegl and passed away at Good Samaritan Center on December 20, 2013. She graduated from Eunice High School in 1957 and then married Henry Porter in Ranchvale, NM on May 30, 1957. Katherine was known as “Grom” to family, friends and strangers. She always put others first and would be ready to play cards, dominoes or any other game at the drop of a hat. She loved getting together with her church family and the Wacky Widows group. She was a faithful church member, never missing a service and volunteering for anything that needed to be done, especially teaching the kids about Jesus. Prayer group was held at her house on a weekly basis. She fed many generations of kids through the years and whether they were related or not, all were welcome. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her Step-mother: Leona Striegl. She is survived by two daughters: Karen and husband Steve Thompson of Lovington, Kyleen and husband Glenn Francis of Lebanon Ohio; three sons: Kenneth and wife Martha Porter of Lovington; Keith and wife Lisa Porter of Hawley, TX and Kurt and wife Donna Porter of Lovington; one brother: Robert “Bob” and wife Jo Striegl of Lubbock, TX; eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 24th from 1:00 pm-5:00 pm and Thursday, Dec. 26th from 8:30 am until 12:00 noon. Condolences may be sent to www.kirbysmithrogers.com.
