Obituary of Carol Rhodes

Carol "Sue" Rhodes January 06, 1948 - September 19, 2016 Funeral services for Carol “Sue” Rhodes, 68, of Lovington, NM will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Chapel with Steve Lord, Star Hospice Chaplain officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Sue was born on January 6, 1948 in Monahans, TX to Gilbert and Edna (Dunn) Widner and passed away at her residence on September 19, 2016. Sue came to Lovington to live in 1960 and married Cecil Rhodes in Lovington on July 25, 1965 and they have shared fifty one years together. She was a long time member of Trinity Baptist Church and loved reading her Bible. She enjoyed playing card games and was a queen at playing the card game called “Hand & Foot”. Sue lost her eyesight in 1973 and she raised their three sons blind. Not once did she complain about the path her life had taken but she smiled and laughed and no matter how much pain she was in, there was always a smile on her face and her attitude was uplifting to all. She was an inspiration to her family and friends and her laugh and loving personality will be truly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother: Clinton Widner. Surviving her is her husband, Cecil of the home; three sons: Cecil Wayne Rhodes of Roswell, NM, Gilbert Franklin Rhodes of Hobbs, NM and Eddie Earl Rhodes of Roswell, NM; one brother: Wayne Widner of Seminole, TX; one sister: Joyce Widner of Snyder, TX; one aunt, Marie Mosman and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 from 9:00 am until 6:00 pm and Thursday from 10:00 am until service time at the funeral home.
