Jean Rose Richardson March 22, 1926 - February 13, 2016 Funeral services for Jean Rose Richardson, 89 of Midland and formerly of Lovington, NM will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 11:00 am at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Chapel with family officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Ms. Richardson was born on a farm in Butler County, close to Surprise, Nebraska on March 22, 1926 to John JR. and Stella Adna (Wilbourn) Crapenhoft and passed away on February 13, 2016 in Midland, TX. She spent her early childhood there and later moved to a farm outside of Willow Springs, Missouri. Jean supported the war efforts by working with the USO and traveled extensively to military bases entertaining the troops. She was a very active lady and a huge volunteer and was one who could get people and events organized and going. She was a Girl Scout leader in Louisiana and South Texas and was even more active with the Boy Scouts of America. One of her proudest moments was earning the Silver Beaver award with the Boy Scouts of America. She served thirty years in many capacities including Unit Commissioner in the Scouting organizations. She was employed by the Lovington Leader for fifteen years before going to work for the State of New Mexico. Jean also worked in the 5th Judicial District Court before retiring. Preceding Jean in death were her parents; one sister: LaVerne Durnell and one brother: Clifford Crapenhoft. Surviving her are two sons: John and wife Sue Richardson of Odessa, TX and Earl and wife Gwen Richardson of Midland, TX; one daughter: Carolyn and husband Tom Applegate of Placitas, NM; two brothers: Russell and wife Beverly Crapenhoft of Springfield, Missouri and Richard and wife Beverly Crapenhoft of Pflugerville, TX and one sister-in-law: Janice Crapenhoft of Springfield, Missouri; six grandchildren: Candace & husband Chrystian Rey of Odessa, TX; Brittany Richardson and Caleb Richardson, both of Midland, Dustin Richardson of Portales, NM; Michelle Richardson and Joshua Richardson both of Odessa, TX and five great-grandchildren : Alexis, Chloe, Emily, Tryston, Rylie. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in memory of Jean to the Lea County Humane Society, 702 North Grimes, Hobbs, NM 88240 or the Boy Scouts of America, Conquistador Council, 2603 N. Aspen Ave, Roswell, NM 88201.
