Ernie P. Robinson May 06, 1932 - December 09, 2015 Funeral services for Earnest “Ernie” P. Robinson Jr, 83, of Lovington, NM will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at 10:00 am at Jackson Ave Baptist Church with Bro. Mike McGuire officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Ernie was born on May 6, 1932 in Eastland, Texas to E.P. Sr. and Minnie Elberta (Gee) Robinson and passed away at his residence on December 9, 2015. He grew up in Ranger, TX, graduating from Ranger High School where he played basketball and football. After graduating he enlisted in the US Army and served in the Korean Conflict. After his discharge from the army he was employed with Lone Star Gas Company in different locations throughout Texas. In 1956 he moved to Monument, NM where he began working for El Paso Natural Gas Company (EPNG). While living in Monument he married Edna “Sandy” Hubbard and while there, their son, Gary was born. With his job, he moved to Oil Center, NM where their daughter, Dena was born. Other promotions with EPNG moved him to Goldsmith, TX and Montezuma Creek, Utah. While in Utah, hunting, fishing and camping were favorite family activities. In 1973 Ernie made a change from EPNG to purchasing the Pioneer Steak House in Lovington, NM. This is when Lovington became the family home. He sold the Steak House in later years but continued smoking briskets, ribs and other meats while also making and selling jerky. He also repaired small engines in the workshop he maintained. Another business venture was the purchase of “Stop it” M & W Manufacturing Company from Wayne Clements. Due to health Ernie retired and it was difficult for him as his shop was a gathering place for friends to visit and for him to meet new people. He believed in supporting the community and served as City commissioner; member of Nor-Lea Hospital Board, Board for building the Lea County Event Center, Chamber of Commerce member and Lovington Citizen of the year of 1988. He was also a devoted member of Jackson Ave Baptist Church for 43 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters: Nell Duncan, Doris Williams, Billie Wynn, Betty Richards, Peggy Cooper and Evelyn Harper. Surviving him is his wife, Sandy, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage; one son: Gary and wife Karla Robinson of Lovington and daughter Dena and husband Esteban A. Aguilar Sr. of Albuquerque, NM; Karla’s children, Chris Branscom of Azle, TX, Misty Andaluz and family of Lovington and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Jackson Ave Baptist Church or a charity of your choice. Visitation will be Monday, December 14, 2015 from noon until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Family will be in residence from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to www.kirbysmithrogers.com.
