Betty Rogers November 02, 1927 - April 21, 2009 A celebration of life for Betty Rogers, 81, will be Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Harold Russell and David Stewart officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Mrs. Rogers was born on November 2, 1927 in Aztec, NM. She passed away on April 21, 2009 in Lovington, NM. She married Alfred E. (Al) Rogers on August 22, 1947 in Aztec, NM. Longtime resident, Betty Rogers, moved to Lovington in 1959 when Al began his employment with Smith-Yarbro Funeral Home. Betty and Al entered into a partnership with J.D. and Roma Smith in 1966 thus establishing Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Betty was active in the funeral business until her retirement in 1991. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi for many years. Betty had an avid green thumb and she loved her park with its birds. The loves of her life were her grandsons, Jake and Luke Rogers. She is survived by two sons, Rand and Rick Rogers, both of Lovington, NM; one daughter, Rene Rogers-Abshier and husband Steve of Hobbs, NM; two grandsons, Jake and Luke of Rogers of Lovington, NM; one sister-in-law, Arlene (Teeta) Stevens of San Antonio, TX; one brother-in-law, Billy Rogers of Las Vegas, NM and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, L.E. and Zelda Eileen Teague; her husband, Alfred E. (Al) Rogers and one sister, Amy Beach. Visitation will be Friday, April 24, 2009 from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the First Presbyterian Church Kitchen Fund, PO Box 1011, Lovington, NM, 88260.
