Obituary of Reyes Ortiz Ruiz

Reyes Ortiz Ruiz August 19, 1946 - February 12, 2017 Funeral services for Reyes Ortiz Ruiz, 70, of Lovington, NM will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 11:00 am at San Jose Catholic Church in Carlsbad, NM with Father Martin Cordero officiating. Burial will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery. Rosary will be on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 6:00 pm at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home Chapel in Lovington, NM. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 15th also, from noon until rosary time at the funeral home. Mr. Ruiz was born on August 19, 1946 in Carlsbad, NM to Cecilio and Eva (Ortiz) Ruiz and passed away in Lovington, NM on February 12, 2017. He graduated from Carlsbad High School and has made his home in Lovington for the past forty four years. He married Ruby Aguilar in Loving, NM on December 11, 1965 and they have shared fifty two years of life, family and love together. Reyes enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping and was a collector. He liked to aggravate his kids and his sense of humor was interesting. He was a “legend in his own mind” when it came to playing golf. He was called “Maestro” by some of the men he worked with when he tried to teach them how to do things at work. He was employed by Conoco, which became AKA Energy Group LLC in later years and retired from them three years ago. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister: Cecilia Orozco. Surviving him is his wife, Ruby of the home; one son: Roland Ruiz of Loving, NM; two daughters: Sandy Long of Lovington, NM and Teresa Rodriquez of Loving, NM; three brothers: Raul and wife Anita Ruiz of Carlsbad, NM, Roy and wife Mary Lou Ruiz of Exeter, CA and Rudy Ruiz of Corcoran, CA; three sisters: Sally and husband Patrick Mitchell of Hanford, CA; Corina Foxen of Alamogordo, NM and Linda DeAnda of Carlsbad, NM; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
