John Lee Boyd Sr.

Graveside funeral services for John Lee Boyd Sr., 91, of Lovington, NM will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Lovington Cemetery with Matt Bridges officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Boyd was born in Tom Green County,Texas, on the family ranch, on December 2, 1925, to Robert William Sr. and Esther Belle (Dyess) Boyd and passed away in Hobbs, NM on December 1, 2017. John’s family moved to Divide, TX where he started second grade. He graduated from Divide Schools at the age of sixteen. He then farmed in Divide for one year and then started ranching after WWII. He ran cattle in Colorado in 1948 and 1949. John met and fell in love with Marjorie Jane Etz and they married on June 30, 1950 in Sweetwater, TX. They moved to the farm north of Lovington in January of 1952 where he farmed vegetables. In 1957 he helped start Boyd Bros. Dairy. In 1968 he farmed hay near Denver City, TX until the early “80’s”. John was a loving and supportive father to his two sons, John Lee Boyd Jr. (Nanci) born in 1952 and Scot Harold Boyd (Melissa) born in 1953. He loved attending all of their sports events. He was a loving, kind and generous grandfather to four grandsons and two granddaughters: Brandon Boyd (Lisa), Heather Boyd McCallon (Travis), Austin Boyd (Becca), Trenton Boyd (Laura), Seth Boyd (Summer), and Alexis Boyd Lowry (Joel). He was also a great-grandfather to nine great-grandsons and four great-grandaughters: Christian Boyd, Zachary Boyd, Ethan Boyd, Arle McCallon, Braxtin Boyd, Rayne Boyd, Boyd McCallon, Mae McCallon, Atly Boyd, Penn and Reed McCallon, Emmie Boyd and Lucah Lowry.
John was a member of the NM Farm Bureau for 29 years where he held every office. He served on the state board for 17 years. He was an avid golfer, “putting and chipping” to the age of 91.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife: Marjorie, his brother: Bob Boyd and one great-grandson Elijah Cole Boyd.
