Obituary of Lorene Cockrell

Lorene Cockrell November 04, 1923 - March 25, 2017 Funeral services for Ruth Lorene Cockrell, 93, of Lovington, NM will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Chapel with Hospice Chaplain Dennis Durfee officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Lorene was born on November 4, 1923 to Oliver Lewis and Eva (Walker) Langlitz in Texas and passed away at her home in Lovington on March 25, 2017. She traveled with her folks in an oxen pulled wagon from Texas to New Mexico when she was small and has made her home in Lea County for almost all of her life. She attended school in Lovington at the Old school house and Miss Childress was her teacher who also taught some of her children in later years. She met and married her husband Aubrey Earl Cockrell in 1958 while working as a waitress in Jal. They raised their own food and livestock and nine children. Lorene was a strong lady of German descent who never complained even when life was tough. She would give someone in need anything she could to help them, if possible . She loved gardening and flowers and her dogs. Most of all, she loved her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons: Earl Davis and Robert Cockrell; three daughters: Priscilla Whitten, Edna Sims and Linda Watson; five sisters: Alice Sumruld, Eva Brown, Ann Rhodes, Thelma Thornhill and Estella Grant and one brother: William Langlitz. Surviving her is one daughter: Loretta and husband Kirby Conner of Hobbs, NM; three sons: Eddie Earl and wife Karen Cockrell of Gaylord, Michigan; Jack Arthur and wife Rita Ann Sims of Bonnerdale, Arkansas and William Lewis Cockrell of Lovington, NM; one sister: Geneva and husband Jack Phelps of Amarillo, TX and one brother: Jesse and wife Pat Langlitz of Texas; sixteen grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
