Obituary of Lura Mae Russell

Lura Mae Russell May 05, 1918 - April 05, 2010 Graveside funeral services for Lura Mae Russell, 91, of Lovington will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Lovington Cemetery with David Stewart officiating. Mrs. Russell was born on May 5, 1918 in Corsicana, Texas to John H. and Alice (Warner) Roberson and passed away at Lovington Good Samaritan Center on April 5, 2010. Services are being conducted by Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM and Thursday from 8:30 until 12:30. Mrs. Russell married Hubert Russell on June 6, 1936 in Navarro County, Texas and they moved to Lovington in 1944. She has been a member of the Church of Christ for many years. In the 70’s she was president of the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at the hospital. She was very family oriented and her church and her family were her joys in life. She has lived at Good Samaritan Center for the last ten years. Lura was a very detailed, organized person and she enjoyed singing and sometimes whistling. Lura was preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Hubert, six brothers, and one sister. She is survived by one son: Don and wife Glenice Russell of Lovington, NM; one daughter: Betty R. Whistler of Corsicana, TX; five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to Lovington Good Samaritan Center, 1600 W. Avenue I, Lovington, NM 88260 in memory of Lura Mae Russell.
