Obituary of Calvin Andrew Sanders

Calvin "Andy" Andrew Sanders March 29, 1928 - April 03, 2017 Funeral services for Calvin Andrew “Andy” Sanders, 89, of Tatum, NM will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church, Tatum, with Bro. Wayne Brazil officiating. Honoring his wishes, Andy will be taken for cremation after his services on Thursday. Mr. Sanders was born on March 29, 1928 in San Jon, NM to Jacob A. and Ethyl (Franklin) Sanders and passed away peacefully at his home in Tatum on April 3, 2017. He was the district manager for the State of New Mexico Road Department in Tatum for many years. He served his country by joining the US Navy from 1942 till 1947. Andy was a member of the Mounted Patrol; managed the first group of voting machines in Roosevelt County; trained horses; raised cattle and farmed. He married Georgia Ellerbe on February 13, 1947 and they shared seventy years of life together. Andy loved playing his harmonica songs to his cherished wife and they enjoyed attending square dances. He and Georgia later bought and developed 100 acres of ranch land Northwest of Tatum, which they lovingly called their “Ponderosa.” He spent many hours taking the grandkids on tractor rides. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Willie and Ray Sanders; three sisters: Esther Chunn, Leota Kingston, Josephine Byrd and a granddaughter, Carrie Sanders. Surviving him is his wife, Georgia of the home; one son: Calvin E. Sanders and his children: Stacie, Clyde, Carah, Cal, Matthew; three daughters: Carol Drummond and her children: Gina, John, Kennye, great- granddaughters Taryn, Jazmine & great-great granddaughter, Zoe; Brenda and husband Edward Comacho and their children: Casey, Beatrice, great-grandchildren, Stacie, Brooklyn, Zoe, Stephanie; Monica, great-grandaughter Ashley and great-great grandson, Joshua; Constance Drew and her children: Joe, Cherice, Jahanna, great-grandchildren Kaitlyn, Neveah, Braden, Jacob; and one sister: Lovella Tivis of Portales, NM. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 from 10:00 am until 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
