Obituary of Leonor Amparan Bernal

Leonor Amparan Bernal April 11, 1932 - January 13, 2015 It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Leonor Amparan Bernal, 82, of Lovington, NM. She passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 in Lovington. She was born on April 11, 1932 to Luis and Juanita Amparan in Rio Conchos, Chihuahua, Mexico. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Redentor Molina officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 15th from 10:00 am until rosary time. Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm Thursday at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home Chapel. Leonor married Rodolfo “Roy” Bernal on October 18, 1951 in Delicias, Chihuahua, Mexico. They made their home in Artesia, NM and after five years, they became long-time residents of Lovington from 1959 until the present. Leonor retired from the Lovington Municipal schools in 1994. She was a former member of the Altar Society of St. Thomas Catholic Church. She was a hard worker, enjoyed cooking, story-telling, and made many friends throughout her life. She was lively, generous, very witty and had a joyful spirit. She was a mother and a friend to many and her home was often a gathering place for family and friends. Her greatest accomplishment was raising her children and instilling in them hard work ethics, importance of education and making sure each generation had better opportunities than the previous one. Leonor was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Roy; her son: Rodolfo Bernal Jr; two brothers: Luis Jr. and Jesus Amparan and three sisters: Irene Villareal, Leticia Robles and Magdalena Lopez and one granddaughter, Melissa Pena. She is survived by her children: Elizabeth Bernal and Tomas Espinoza, Alicia and husband Ralph Pena, Isela and husband Joseph Franguille; Daniel Bernal, Oscar Bernal and Beatriz Moreno and Sam and wife Christina Bernal; the Grandchildren include: Adrianna & Veronica Herrera, Elizabeth and husband Daniel Espinosa; Robert Fierro; Aaron Pena, Jennifer Pena, Adrian Rodriguez, Angelica and husband Luis Longoria, Lexis, Belen, Erica, Jeremy, Julian, Hector, Roger, Daniela and Sonia Bernal. Also nine great-grandchildren: Raven, Jaza, Lyric, Kendi, Rhesa, Valarie, Noah, Jayleen, Alannah and two brothers, Juan Amparan and Alfonso Amparan and one sister, Celestina Torres.
