Larry Dean "Sparky" Solberg June 28, 1958 - August 12, 2016 Funeral services for Larry Dean “Sparky” Solberg, 58, of Lovington, NM will be held on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home Chapel with Gentiva Hospice Chaplain, Dennis Durfee officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Larry was born on June 26, 1958 in Minot, North Dakota to Robert and Cora (Gladheim) Solberg and passed away in Hobbs, NM on Friday, August 12, 2016 after a battle with cancer. He moved to New Mexico in 1968 and attended school in Lovington, graduating here in 1976 and then moving to San Angelo, TX where he was employed by the City of San Angelo. He returned to Lovington where he had the gratification of being employed by the Gandy Corporation for twenty one years. He had a deep affection and appreciation for the Gandy’s as they treated him like family and working for them was a pleasure. Larry was an avid bowler, enjoyed playing golf and enjoyed watching most sports but was passionate about watching and supporting his favorite teams, the Minnesota Vikings and Twins. He was a giving and generous man that would give you the shirt off his back and made and kept good friends. He was also famously known as Uncle “WeeWee” by all of his nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents: one brother: Kevin Solberg and step-father: Rue Mauk and the love of his life, Robin Hughes. He is survived by one brother: Keith and wife Ann Solberg of Minot, North Dakota; two sisters: Pam and husband Eddie Holmes and Karla Edwards both of Springfield, Missouri ; six nieces and nephews: Ginny Aimoe of Springfield, MO, Bobby Holmes of Springfield, MO, Tara and husband Travis Schall of Minot, NDak, Todd Solberg of Minot; Tamara and husband Josh Ingram of Fairbanks, Alaska, and Ashley and husband Jason Ganaway of Lovington, NM; Robin’s children, Joe and Cindy Lozoya and Dusty Manning both of Lovington and Robin’s grandchildren, whom they called “their” grandchildren and Larry loved as if they were his own: Joshua Talavera Lozoya, Jesus Talavera Lozoya, Angel Talavera Lozoya and Ainslie and Alesha Manning. There will be no viewing but the memory book may be signed at the funeral home on Tuesday between 8:30am and 5:00 pm and then at the service also.
