Koly Ray Spears July 23, 1996 - September 24, 2017 Funeral services for Koly Ray Spears, 21, of San Angelo, TX and formerly of Lovington, NM will be held on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church with Ty Bean, pastor of Cowboy Junction Church officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Koly Ray was born in Denver City, TX on July 23 1996 to J.W. Spears Jr. and Cresley Spears and passed away in San Angelo, TX on September 24, 2017. He grew up in Lovington and attended school here until eighth grade then attended school in Tatum from eighth grade through graduation. Koly was active in FFA, Lea County Jr. Rodeo Assoc., Eddy County Jr. Rodeo Assoc, and High Plains Jr. Rodeo Assoc. He had loved rodeo and roping since he was four years old and went to college with a full ride on rodeo scholarships at Tucumcari Mesa Lands Community College, majoring in wind energy. Koly graduated with honors from TMLC. He liked mechanic work and especially liked to work on diesel trucks, but also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was employed by NextEra Energy Resources at the Cap Ridge Site, in Sterling City. Koly was always smiling and would light up a room with his great personality. He was very attached to his smart dog “Ellie Mae” and loved animals. He liked making people laugh and was a fun person to work with and never wanted anyone to be upset. His heart was huge and he was a loving, kind, young man who will be greatly missed. Preceding him in death was his grandfather Charlie Sewell. Surviving him are his parents: Cresley Spears and J. W. Spears Jr., both of Lovington, NM; one brother: Kelly Shay and wife Chelsea Spears of Lovington; one sister: Karie and husband Josh Pickerel of Midland, TX; Nicole Wells, the love in his life of San Angelo, TX; grandparents: Gary and Linda Norton of Tatum, NM and Lefty and Ouida Spears of Lovington, NM; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and a host of friends. In lieu of flowers you may make donations to Lea County Jr. Rodeo Association, 15368 Knowles Rd, Lovington, NM 88260 or to High Plains Jr. Rodeo Association, PO Box 5142, Clovis, NM 88101 in memory of Koly Ray.
