Obituary of George Leslie Stanfield

George Leslie Stanfield Jr. June 01, 1927 - May 11, 2010 Come join us for the celebration of the life of George Leslie Stanfield Jr., 82, of Voss, TX. Our dad, grandfather, great grandfather went home to a better place on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 in Brownwood, TX. Graveside services will be held at Prairie Haven Cemetery on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 2:00 pm with Reverend Vergil Ichtertz officiating. He will be laid to rest next to his loving wife Sue. Visitation will be at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home in Lovington, NM on Friday, May 14, 2010 from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm. George was born June 1, 1927, in Kaufman, Texas to George and Mabel (Duncan) Stanfield. He was a resident of Hobbs, NM for over 50 years. In his earlier years, he worked as a crop-duster and a lumber yard clerk, he also worked for R & R Service Co. for many years and retired from Banta Oil Field Service in 1995. After retirement, he re-located to Elm Creek Village at Lake O.H. Ivie. He loved fishing and living by the lake with his dear friends. He served his country in the US Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged on the 17th day of August, 1946. He was recalled for duty during the Korean War and was again, honorably discharged on the 18th day of August, 1954. He was preceded in death by his wife of 21 years, Sue Stanfield, his parents, and a brother, Marshall Stanfield. Survivors include two sons, Phill Elliott and wife Sabrina of Hobbs, NM ,Jerry Elliott of Hobbs, NM; four daughters, Jana Hughes and husband Kenneth of Hobbs, NM, Tresa Hart and husband Dennis of Seagraves, TX, Lori Smith and husband Brian of Amarillo, TX, and Leslie McConal and husband Carey of Seagraves, TX; a brother, Sammy Pendley and wife Cathy of Albuquerque, NM; sixteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and various nieces and nephews. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
