Obituary of Elvin Allen

Elvin Allen January 21, 1935 - July 29, 2012 Funeral services for Elvin Lee Allen, 77, of Hobbs, NM will be held on Friday, August 3, 2012 at 10:00 am at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home with James Kirby officiating. Mr. Allen was born on January 21, 1935 in Spur, Texas to Gene and Minnie Opal (Bilberry) Allen and passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2012 at University Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. Elvin moved to Hobbs, NM in 1948, grew up there and graduated from Hobbs High School, where he was a track star and had the nickname of “legs”. He attended college at Eastern where he also ran track and took some classes from Abilene Christian College and NMJC. He enjoyed all types of music; grew a wonderful garden every year; and enjoyed his family very much. He married Judie DeMoss in Lovington on May 5, 1966 and they shared 46 years together. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Bill Bilberry and Melvin Allen; one sister: Ellen Borden and one granddaughter, Lacie Thomas. He is survived by his wife Judie of the home, two daughters: Kelli Allen of Albuquerque, NM and Sonnie and husband Dr. Patrick Homer of Lovington; one brother: Charles Allen of Hobbs and one sister: Edna “Eddie” and husband Bill Maness of Hobbs; five grandchildren: Jaycie Homer, Lexi Allen, Morgan Homer, Andrew Homer and Madison Homer and three great-grandchildren: Cristin, Kaitlynn and Payton and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Wednesday August 1, 2012 from 8:30 am until 5:00 p.m and Thursday August 2, 2012 from 8:30 am until 8:00 pm.
