Funeral services for Joel Thad Black, 76, of Tatum, NM will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at Tatum First Baptist Church at 10:00 am with Bro. Joe Fitzpatrick and Bro. Wayne Brazil officiating. Burial will follow at Tatum Cemetery. Services are being conducted by Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mr. Black was born in Crossroads, NM on February 14, 1935 to Edd S. and Marguerite (Worley) Black and passed away at his residence on Sunday, January 15, 2012. He married Eva Joan Hartsfield on May 1, 1963 in Crane, Texas.
Joel began his working life at about age 11 and through the years he owned and operated Joel Black Farm & Ranch Supply; was a school bus contractor, worked for various oilfield companies and at the time of his death he was employed by Western Drilling of Hobbs, NM. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his loving wife, Eva of the home; three sons: Phillip and wife Tammy Black of Azle, TX; Tommy and wife Pat Black of Lovington and Bradley Glenn and wife Jane Black of Hico, TX; two daughters: Shelly and husband Jeff Triboulet of Daphne, AL and Jennifer “Jill” Black of Deming, NM.
