Watch the Tribute Thelma Thompson July 10, 1916 - November 16, 2010 Funeral services for Thelma Coe Thompson, 94, of Hobbs, will be held on Friday, November 19, 2010 at 10:00 am at Sunset Church of Christ in Carlsbad, NM with Gary Standard officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Garden Cemetery in Carlsbad. Services are being conducted by Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home of Lovington. Thelma was born on July 10, 1916 northwest of Melrose, NM to Roy C. and Avis (Swopes) Jones and passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2010 in Hobbs, NM. She graduated from Melrose High School as Salutatorian in 1934. She was employed by the Curry County School Superintendent’s Office and Southwestern Investment Company in Clovis, NM until 1939 when she married Woodrow Coe in Portales, NM. The family moved to Lovington in 1948 where Thelma worked in the family business. After the death of her husband, she met and married Elzy Thompson of Carlsbad, NM in 1972. Thelma was a faithful Christian since age 10 and worked diligently in the church. She was a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter #35 in Lovington over 50 years and also dueled with Artesia #18. She served as a Grand Officer twice and held numerous other state offices. She was Past Worthy High Priestess of White Shrine of Jerusalem, a member of Roswell Beauceaunt Assembly #116 and past president of Carlsbad Altrusa Club. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands: Woodrow Coe and Elzy Thompson; one daughter: Kathy (Coe) Hart; and a grandson: Chad Coe. She is survived by two sons: Woody and wife Susan Coe of Lovington, NM and Wayne and wife Ann Coe of Sunbright, TN and one sister: Ruby Mae Goodwin of Atlanta, GA; eight Grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving her are stepsons: Preston and wife Donna Thompson of Hempstead, TX and Eddy and wife Jenny Thompson of Garden City, KS.
