Obituary of Naomi Roena Thorne

Watch the Tribute Naomi Roena Thorne September 11, 1915 - August 09, 2010 Memorial services for Naomi Roena Thorne, 94, and Hollis Oren “Cotton” Thorne, 88, of Hobbs, will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Chapel in Lovington at 1:00 PM with Elder Bert Cole officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Naomi was born on September 11, 1915 in O’Brien, Texas to Porter Allen and Dora (Nelson) Speck and passed away on August 9, 2010 in Hobbs, NM. She married Hollis Oren Thorne in Seminole, TX on October 29, 1948 and he preceded her in death on February 12, 2010. Hollis and Naomi lived in Lovington from 1969 – 1978 and later also resided in Tatum where he worked for Charles Lee Services and later owned and operated his own hot oil and dump truck business called Cotton Lease Services. Naomi was a homemaker, enjoying yard work and gardening and she loved her children and grandchildren. She was a Jehovah Witness. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sons: Donald and Royce Bowman, one grandson, three brothers: Bud, R.V. and Lloyd Speck and two sisters: Nelma Brown and Jurene Conn. She is survived by two daughters: Brenda and husband Michael Levy of Hobbs, NM and Judy and husband R. W. Waller of Hale Center, TX; one sister, Ovena Hawthorne of Ralls, TX, fourteen grandchildren: Jennifer, Jeff, Tammy, Rhonda, Becky, Robin, Lynn, Jean, Lucky, Tracie, Cammie, Tony, Cannon and Terra, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and her loving caregiver, Carmen Padilla.
