Obituary of Merejilda Contreras

Watch the Tribute Merejilda Contreras April 13, 1927 - February 02, 2011 Funeral services for Merejilda (Aguilar) Contreras, 83, of Lovington, NM will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2011 at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Father Manuel Ibarra officiating. Burial will follow at Lovington Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kirby-Smith-Rogers Funeral Home. Mrs. Contreras was born on April 13, 1927 in Lockhart, Texas to Francisco and Crecensia (Marinez) Aguilar and passed away at her residence on February 2, 2011. She married Jose Contreras on December 13, 1952 in Crosbyton, Texas. She had been a longtime resident of Lea County and was a faithful member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, member of the Guadalupanas at St. Thomas and was an avid bingo player and truly enjoyed doing ceramics. She loved her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; two children: Celia & Roberto and three brothers, Cipriano, Francisco and Margarito and one sister Genoveva. She is survived by her husband, Jose Contreras of the home; five sons: Juan A. Contreras, Sr of Lovington, Enrique Contreras Sr of Artesia, Jose Contreras Jr of Amarillo, TX; Santiago Contreras Sr. of Amarillo, TX and Michael Contreras Sr. of Las Cruces, NM; eight daughters: Julia Lein of Dallas, TX, Alice Ybanez of Belton, TX, Patricia Contreras of Arlington, TX, Virginia Contreras of Lovington, Esperanza Palomo of Lovington, Irene Peña of Denver City, TX, Mary Ann Muñoz of Las Cruces, NM and Petra Black of Lovington, NM. Three brothers: Alejandro, Candelario and Eugenio Aguilar and four sisters: Anita Torres, Carmen Perales, Lorenza Estrada, and Eloisa Aguilar. Also numerous Grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rosary will be held on Friday, February 4, 2011 at 7:00 pm at Kirby-Smith-Rogers Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday February 3, 2011 from noon until 5:00 pm and Friday, February 4, 2011 from 8:30 am until Rosary time. Condolences may be sent to www.kirbysmithrogers.com
