James was golf instructor and I competed against Ronnie in sports growing up. My dad, George, worked with Ross many years ago at NMJC and have fond memories of Coach Black from my youth. Found it interesting that Ross was born the day after Dad- who passed away Oct 21, 2012. Thoughts and prayers are with your family. May peace be with you...

I am so aorry to hear about Coach Black's passing. He was my PE teacher in Junior High. I have always held a deep appreciation for coach since he set my dislocated arm when I hurt it in PE. He was a kind and generous man. I will always keep him in my memory.

I loved Coach Black for many reasons- he selected me to work as a student athletic trainer at NMJC and today 43 years later I'll be taping our football team for HS games Friday night where I serve as Athletic Trainer - it will be in his honor. Coach, thank you and I'll see you again one day on the other side of glory. Mrs Black, praying for you and family -

I have many fond memories of Coach Black. He was a strict disciplinarian and also a man of character. He will be missed by many and forever be remembered as a man of his word. He expected the best from everyone and was always willing to do what it took to help anyone achieve their dreams. Rest in Peace Coach. Now that you and Coach Blackard are together in Heaven I'm sure that the conversations are to say the least very interesting. My deepest condolences to the family of this wonderful man who touched so many lives in a long and distinguished career.

Ross Black
Patriarch
Father. Coach. Teacher. Leader.
Role model
Ross had a strong positive influence my life and the lives of numerous people. You could rightly say Ross "talked the talk and walked the walk".
He was honest, tough, no nonsense, did what he said, said what he thought, knew what he was talking about, stood by his decisions, and listened to others. He expected the best from his pupils (including his children), but even more of himself. He was a competitor!
A hard worker, self made, determined.
Always a loved community leader who made a difference.
I have many fond memories of family fun at the Black's home.
We should al celebrate a life well lived..

Thinking of you all and remembering one of my favorite men. Mr. Black was my boss, giving me my first teaching job in Lovington. I will always remember seeing he and Cherril sitting in the pew at FUMC and knowing I was going to be greeted with a hug and kind words. I remember him most as the man who always was excited to see me and made me, and everyone he ran into feel like they mattered more than anything at that moment. My love and prayers go to Cherril and the family. Though I won't be there Friday, I will be reminising and remembering one of the great ones.

Many great memories of growing up with the Black family as neighbors on 7th Street in our early years. Ross was like another Dad that I tried to make sure I didn't cross. He taught me a lot, even my first back handspring!
Condolences to you Cherrill, James Ross, Ronnie, Ricky and Robbie (as I knew you back then). Wish I could be there.

Thank you for loving my family and me. I joy in knowing that you and dad were separated by only four months on earth. And, now y'all can once again share administration stories and the best golf games ever! I am a better person for knowing you and your dear family.
Love to you, sweet Black family. And may each day bring you memories to treasure. Truly, you are treasures to me. I love you. Sending hugs and prayers for strength and comfort. Connie Crow
